Message – Conference Patron

Bishop Barrington SmithAnd this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.
-(Philippians 1:9-10)-

With a spirit of love and unity, I welcome everyone to “Excellence Conference 2017”.
I believe that our conference this year will prove to be very valuable to the decisions and future success of many of our black students. I welcome and thank all of our role models, volunteers, students and parents that have responded to our call and have come together to make this conference a success.

We are living in very challenging times for our educational system of Ontario. Many decisions being made today will significantly impact and influence the lives and future of many within our culture who are fighting to succeed and to get ahead. We must be prepared to take a stand against the negative currents that are undermining the future of our present generation. Philippians 1:9 instructs us to approve things that are excellent. In other words, we should align ourselves with the best of us and reject the worst of us. Now is not the time to keep silent and wait for others to take a stand. We must get out of our comfort zones and begin to advocate and fight for this generation and the one to follow.

Excellence is not just some unreachable goal, but should become a way of life for us. We must find a way to get this in the psyche of this generation. This cannot be deferred to another day or another time. The time for excellence is now. This must be adapted in all areas of life, spiritually, psychologically and educationally. This is my passion, this is my goal and this is my pursuit that we be the best we can be. Let’s make it happen!!
